TheWorlds First Temporary Hockey Event
The Stoop - Twickenham

Harlequins' Twickenham Stoop Stadium is the first temporary venue to host the FIH Pro League double header finals. The largest hockey attendance in the UK since the 2012 Olympics.

THE SCHEME

As part of an initiative to raise the profile of hockey, England Hockey and its partners, including UK Sport and the National Lottery, have been investing in new innovative pitch technologies which will make it possible to host temporary hockey events at the highest level in the most prestigious stadiums throughout the UK.

The first stadium to be transformed to host the FIH Pro League double header finals against New Zealand's Black Sticks is The Stoop, home of the Harlequins. This pioneering event will see the largest hockey attendance in the UK since the 2012 Olympics.

THE SOLUTION

The innovative pitch technologies incorporated in this historic Stoop fixture not only require finding new ways to lay the hockey surface, but also the ability to remove it after a short window of time. This will allow surface to be re-used time and time again and ensure the rugby pitch beneath is ready for the Harlequins’ upcoming season.

SELSports were selected to execute the installation and removal of the Permavoid drainage system to exacting standards and within a rigid time frame.

Scrupulous attention to detail made it possible to install 6200m2 of Permavoid units to an impeccable tolerance of just +/-2mm. Superior material, plant and labour coordination made it possible to complete the perfect Permavoid installation in just two days. SELSports are proud to have completed this installation before the scheduled installation start date.
